Can Mary be a Role Model Mother for the Modern Mothers? Fr Nelson Lobo OFM Cap

WONDERING GURU (74)

It’s the birthday of the ever humble and obedient Mother of Jesus. She was chosen to be the mother of Jesus not because of her beauty but because of her humility says St. Jerome. On this occasion the world celebrates Mother’s Day. Can Mary be a model mother for the modern mothers?
I feel she is much more relevant today than she ever was. Since the day of Annunciation no mother ever born has faced peril to her life and her son than Mary. In spite of all anxiety she was always pro-life. In every moment of her life she was open to God’s will. Inspite of having the privilege of being  the Mother of Jesus she had to suffer so much.
Loving God does not mean sufferings will disappear. She is a great Hope to all modern mothers. Being a widow at young age, only son preaching and not working, no family income, people bad mouthing her son, life was lonely. With all the abuses in the temples by Scribes and Pharisees she still preferred to go to the Temple and fulfill her religious duties. Despite being herself pregnant with her pregnancy at a tender young age she forgets herself and visits her cousin Betty. She just does not wish and kiss her well. She remains with her and helps around.

Can she be a role model to today’s Moms? This question can be answered only with deep meditation on the life of our dear Mother Mary.  Wishing one and all a very happy feast of Maria Bambina (Baby Mary) and the choicest blessings on all the mothers especially on the Mothers going to be this year. Happy Feast! Happy Mother's Day!

  1. You are correct Fr Nelson, only innocent people being troubled and harassed by others. Devil's day will also come and they will be punished by God. God bless you Fr with good health and long life.
